Gavin Taylor, Head of Soccer Operations

Gavin played as a youth with West Ham United FC & semi-professional in England before ending his playing career early through injury.  At this point he focused on a coaching career.

Gavin holds his UEFA A youth license & Bachelors Degree in Coaching Science. He spent over 8 years in the prestigious Fulham FC Academy where he worked with all age groups from U8 - U23.

His primary focus was with the highly successful U18 team who went on to win back to back U18 EPL championships whilst also winning the U19 Super Group at the Dallas Cup. 

He has developed over 50 players who are now playing professional soccer around Europe & the USA. Many of these players are competing on the highest stage.

Gavin lives in Napa with his wife & two daughters.

Mark Corbett, Head of Girls Soccer

Mark holds a UEFA A license and a bachelor’s degree in Football Coaching, Development and Administration. He is also currently studying a master’s degree with the University of South Wales in Advanced Performance Football Coaching.

Mark has spent the last 10 years working at Portsmouth FC. During that time, he has held many positions including Academy coach and Head of Football Development, and with players aged 8 to 19.

Mark was also a lecturer for Personal Fitness Training qualifications for academy players aged 16-19 as well as First Team professional players.

As part of his coaching journey, Mark's first experience of Napa was coaching for MLS Camps in 2007. He returned back to his native England later that year before taking a position with Chelsea FC as a foundation coach. He worked there until moving on to Portsmouth FC in 2009.

Mark is a former beach soccer player, where he represented the England national team nearly 50 times. He scored 29 goals and in 2014 was named the 'England Player of the Year'.

Mark has moved to Napa, with his wife Sarah, to take on a dual role with both Napa United and as Head Coach for the Napa Valley 1839 FC men’s team.

Brian Arcila, Head of Boys Soccer

Brian is a Napa United alumni & achieved excellent on field success winning Nationals & State Cup during his playing days. He is now a hugely popular member of our coaching team whilst also completing his further education. 

Brian is also following the USSF coaching pathway as part of his personal development journey. 

"I am delighted to be a part of a program that is offering elite opportunities that didn't exist during my playing days. We are all working towards a common goal of developing players for the highest level from Napa".

Tom Shutt, Director of Recreation and Community - Academy Staff Coach

Tom played in the Cheshire County League in the North of England, UK. He started coaching community soccer programs at 16 for Cheshire County & also ran programs at local Schools.

Went to Greater Manchester Salford University where he gained an HND in Media Production and a Bachelors Degree in Sports Management.

First coached in the US in 2007 with Challenger Sports, mainly in Northern California and Oregon. Tom eventually came back with Challenger after gaining his degree and ran Napa United's first Player Development Program in 2012 before being appointed Academy Program Director for Challenger in 2013.

Tom is a full time member of staff for Napa United & hugely popular face at every event we run. He also runs community programs at Elementary Schools & is age group coordinator for club 4v4 and 7v7 teams. 

As part of his coaching journey Tom has completed English FA badges back in the UK. Here in the USA he's gained NSCAA National Diploma and USSF C license.

Tom lives in Napa with his wife Rebecca & baby boy Beau.

Xavier Gonzalez, Senior Academy Coach

Coach Xavier is the newest member of our academy coaching team & offers a varied background that we are excited to see in our academy. Xavier has been playing soccer since he was 5 years old & saw him also play Varsity for Napa High when he was a freshman.

Following High School Xavier joined the US Marines & proudly served for 8 years. While in the Marines he continued playing soccer for each duty station he was assigned to. He was then selected to play All-Marine Soccer which is equivalent to D1/NPSL for 2 seasons. 

He has been coaching for 5 years across all playing formats including 11v11 NPL teams. Coach Xavier also has a son who plays for the Napa United 1839 Academy 08 boys & lives in town with his wife Ashley.

Juan Aguilar, Academy Staff Coach

Coach Juan is another former Napa United player, where started playing rec & moved to playing club soccer where he won state cup & leagues titles. Juan also played at the Napa Valley College in 2016 before playing Semi Pro soccer in the UPSL league with Napa Sport. 

Juan is another committed coach pursuing the USSF coaching pathway & currently holds the US Grassroots license & USSF D license.

Peter Weber, Director of Marketing and Development - Academy Staff Coach

Peter was an accomplished two-sport athlete at St. Helena High earning all-league honors, captain of the tennis and soccer teams, and a Sac-Joaquin State Section Champion doubles player.

Peter coached the boys and girls Varsity soccer programs and the Varsity tennis program at St. Helena High for 7 years and a combined 13 seasons between 1992 and 1999 while earning his Bachelor of Science Degree from UC Davis.

Highlights of Peter’s soccer and tennis high school coaching accomplishments include 4 tennis league titles, 1 tennis state section championship, 4 soccer playoff appearances for the boys’ varsity program, including a State Section Semifinal appearance, establishing a girls’ Varsity program, and voted Coach of the Year by the Napa Valley Register Fall of 1999.

Peter has directed soccer and tennis summertime camps/clinics for St. Helena’s Parks and Rec Department and coached private lessons for youth players.

Peter is now coaching his daughter’s 2008 Pre-NPL team, which is a top-25 team in the United States, according to Got Soccer. He holds a USSF F and E license and is a paid staff member of Napa United.

Peter has had a hand in coaching and mentoring multiple players from St. Helena High, a small school, to college athletics, including several Division 1 athletes.
