WEATHER POLICY

Rain

It is the general policy of the league that all games are played, “rain or shine.” Games are not cancelled because of rain if the field is still in playable condition. Coaches cannot cancel games, even by mutual agreement.

The Napa Unified School District field use guidelines, as well as the health and safety of the players, shall dictate whether games are cancelled. In the event of an obvious weather hazard such as lightning, teams must immediately cease playing and vacate the field for safety reasons.

In the event of rain, teams should assume that games will be played, and proceed to the field, unless previously notified via email from the soccer league.

Efforts may be made to reschedule games cancelled due to weather, but the league may determine in its discretion that rescheduling is logistically too difficult, and may not reschedule such games.

Remember, you may always check for updates on playing conditions at the napaunited.org website or contact your coach.

Heat

Napa United will be following the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) for determining the status of trainings for our teams with regards to heat. This policy is outlined by US Soccer. The WBGT measures both air temperature and humidity. We cross reference the WBGT to our climatic region to determine if trainings can resume as normal, be modified, or canceled.

The WBGT is measured using the chart below (larger versions can be viewed online):

Napa United uses Category 2 from the US Soccer map determining climatic regions to determine heat tolerance of our players.

Once the WBGT is determined, it is cross-referenced with the category 2 below to determine the status of training.

Napa United will determine the forecast using the Terrace Weather Station on Wunderground for academy practices at Silverado, the Pueblo Station for academy at Raiders and Redwood, and for all recreation we will use a central location in Napa.

Updated Policy | Air Quality Index (AQI) & Cancellations

We would like to update our existing policy regarding practice and game cancellations when

the weather is negatively affecting air quality. There are many different sources of information

and we want to interpret the details safely and effectively.

Our recent experiences have also lead us to review our policy, we have also consulted with our

governing bodies to get reliable information. We have reviewed all of the information available

and will be making the following changes immediately.

We will continue to use AirVisual as our source for readings & Napa as the location.

This is a fluid situation that means practice may be canceled before the start time or during the practice

or games when a reading of 151 or above is listed.

We will always try and balance the need to practice & play while maintaining player health and

safety as our number one priority. We recommend all families check your Teamsnap & the AQI

before your departure for the fields. If a player chooses not to come when the air quality is in

question we fully understand.
